Tips for Residents & Their Loved Ones

It’s been reported that symptoms of the Coronavirus may not appear for 5 days. You may not know that you are infected or that someone else is infected. Consider taking the following precautions to stay healthy and help others do the same:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Consider greeting people without shaking hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer between handwashing.
  • Cover your mouth whenever you cough or sneeze.
  • Do not touch your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth, with unwashed hands.
  • Reach out often via letter, phone, email, or video conferencing such as FaceTime or Skype.
    • If possible, send pictures & drawings from grandchildren.
    • Visit our “Sharing God’s Love” webpage to send a note of encouragement to residents and staff.
  • Be a calming presence and assure your loved one of their safety and well-being by educating them as to the precautionary measures taken at Luther Manor.
  • We have urged Independent Living residents to do daily self-screening for symptoms related to the Coronavirus and to do daily temperature checks.
    • If your loved one does not have a thermometer, please consider helping them order one through an online retailer, local delivery service or by you dropping one off for them at one of our approved entrances.
    • Encourage them to take their own precautionary measures (ie., washing hands, cleaning surfaces, social distancing, etc.).
    • Make sure they have supplies on hand (bottled water, juices, canned soups, canned fruits, etc.) should they get sick.
  • With shuttle-runs to grocery stores having stopped, Independent Living residents can still shop in our in-house grocery store, the Manor Mart.
      • We have also provided residents a list of grocery delivery services that will drop off orders at our approved entrances.
    • Families can assist by dropping off groceries at an approved entrance. Please call ahead to ensure that staff are available to meet you.
